The National Democratic Institute (NDI) strongly condemns the unjustified and unprovoked arrest, and continued detention of three staff members in Sana’a, Yemen, and urgently demands their immediate release. On June 6, three were taken from their homes by forces of the Houthi de facto authority in Sana’a, along with Yemeni staff of the United Nations, international non-governmental organizations, and multinational companies. This arbitrary and inhumane treatment of Yemeni citizens involved in humanitarian assistance, diplomacy, democracy and human rights, peacemaking, and civil society development is entirely without foundation and must be ended immediately. NDI, which has been working openly and transparently in Yemen since 1993, demands the swift release by the Houthi regime of our staff, and of all individuals who have been unjustly detained.
