The National Democratic Institute (NDI) have released the new election toolkit for election observers, “Votes Without Violence: A Citizen Observer’s Guide to Addressing Violence Against Women in Elections.” The toolkit seeks to arm election observers with a gender inclusive framework for assessing elections, and give actionable strategies that promote a safer space for women to participate in during elections. The toolkit includes: an electoral observation guidance manual, resource links, and comprehensive information on how to minimize violence against women during the election cycle. Partner civil society organizations from Côte d’Ivoire, Burma, Tanzania, and Nigeria have piloted the toolkit during their respective elections and their findings are documented in the report.
