REDLAD: Honduran LGBTI Activists Face Increasing Violence
The Latin American and Caribbean Network for Democracy (REDLAD) issued an announcement regarding the alarming trend of abductions and murders of human rights defenders’ relatives in Honduras.
The statement was in response to the May 13 abduction and murder of Allan Yoni Banegas Godoy, nephew of the Executive Director of the Association for a Better Life Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to issue the precautionary measure No. 457-13 in 2014 asking the Honduran government “to ensure the life and physical integrity of the members.”
The World Movement for Democracy joins REDLAD in urging the Honduran government to take an “active role in the protection of the work of civil society” and hold those responsible accountable. Read the full statement here.
