Mumbi Namwawa is a Program Officer at the People’s Action for Accountability and Good Governance in Zambia. She is also a member of Youth4Parliament and Girls Gone Political (GGP), two social movements that seek to increase youth participation and representation in politics and the civic space. After being involved with Youth4Parliament, Mumbi decided to join GGP to address the specific issues that affect women and young women’s active participation in politics. Since 2020, GGP has worked to empower women in Zambia, cultivating an ideology in service of their communities and helping them build their own political platforms. Mumbi believes that GGP’s success in helping more women get elected for decision-making positions at the council level and national parliament is an example of young people’s capacity and desire to lead and tackle pressing issues in their communities.
