In this #Crosssover Initiative video, Kathy Addy, Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education in Ghana, shares her experience transitioning from civil society into government to foster civic education and strengthen democracy in her country. Addy speaks about the challenges of adjusting to a new working environment while maximizing the opportunity to lead and achieve more than originally envisioned for her mandate. Her advice to young women interested in politics is “do not shy away from leadership.”

Before being appointed to the National Commission for Civic Education in Ghana, in 2017, Kathy Addy worked with civil society organizations in Ghana including the Center for Democratic Development (CDD), where she was the Afrobarometer Communications Manager. She also worked with the Center for Policy Analysis (CEPA) in Ghana as a Research and Communications Officer, focusing on Women’s Economic Empowerment and Economic Partnership agreements.
