SPEAK! Campaign Launches

CIVICUS launched a new SPEAK! Campaign, designed to amplify voices of citizens and foster new collaborations among democracy activists. The campaign will lead into CIVICUS’s Global Days of Citizen Action (GDCA) this September. With the launch, CIVICUS debuted a campaign website featuring partner events, activists stories, and opportunities to get involved in the global campaign. World Movement Steering Committee members, Tamara Adrian and Bambang Harymurti, are highlighted in the interactive website.

The first GDCA event will take place on September 22, when civil society will participate in a global day of silence to express solidarity with activists behind bars. The following two days, CIVICUS and its partners will host a global series of SPEAK! events on a broad range of issues such as government transparency, freedom of expression, environmental and labor rights, as well as youth empowerment. Citizens will work collectively on strategies to defend their basic freedoms at the events. Sign up to participate and host your own SPEAK! event here.
