January 28 marked six months since the presidential elections in Venezuela. To this date, the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela has not published the electoral results disaggregated by polling station. According to Transparencia Electoral, in the July 2024 elections, candidate Edmundo González Urrutia obtained 67% of the votes, with 85% of the ballots counted. However, in an act that ignores the popular will, the CNE proclaimed Nicolás Maduro as president, forging the results in clear violation of democratic norms. Against this backdrop, Transparencia Electoral issued a statement rejecting the CNE’s recent call for legislative and regional elections in Venezuela. “[The] CNE has lost all legitimacy to call and organize new electoral processes until it recognizes the triumph of Edmundo González Urrutia and allows him to assume the position for which he was elected by Venezuelans.”
