During the second Summit for Democracy, the National Democratic Institute (NDI) assembled a delegation of young leaders from different countries across Latin America to participate in the Summit activities that took place in San Jose, Costa Rica, on March 29-30. The activities focused on youth and the role of the younger population in democratic systems. In partnership with the International Republican Institute (IRI), the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), and the World Movement for Democracy, NDI convened a side event, What’s Next for Youth and Democracy, with young leaders, youth development practitioners and allies from around the world who are committed to creating a democratic future by opening civic spaces, reclaiming fact-based information and pushing for greater accountability and transparency in governance. The event featured the World Movement’s What’s Next? Youth Declaration, which served as a framework for participants to discuss innovative ideas to revitalize democracy and transform civic spaces through the use of arts, digital platforms, and technology.
